The taste of freshly steamed rice is truly delicious.
I can think of no Japanese person who would disagreewith that statement. Despite this almost universal love for rice amongst the Japanese populace, however, there are very few people who can differentiate between different varieties of rice on the basis of taste alone. As indicated by the ancient superstition that seven gods reside in each grain of rice, the Japanese have often seen a lot more in simple white rice than one might expect. What about you?
What can you see through the prism of rice?
Japan? The world? The universe? Or maybe it just makes your stomach rumble with hunger – if so, perhaps that’s more than enough!
